The Anders Svor Museum is idyllically located by Hornindalsvatnet, surrounded by a beautiful sculpture park.
The museum has a collection of nearly 600 objects: from sketches to several of his most central works such as the plaster sculpture Ung pike (1895) and the bronze fountain Bylgja (1913, nystøping 1979)). The exhibition gives an insight into the carver’s working methods, motif circle, typology and style development from a detailed naturalism via classicism to symbolism. Anders Svor (1864-1929) grew up in Hornindal and started as a wood carver before studying art in Kristiania and Copenhagen.
After a period of study in Paris in the mid-1890s, he established his own studio in Kristiania, where he worked for the rest of his life. Svor was one of the central Norwegian sculptors of his generation. He has been purchased by the National Museum and participated in several national and international exhibitions.
