At the relocated farm Knivsflå, seven waterfalls plunge 250 meters into the fjord and are an impressive sight.
How big the waterfalls are and how easy it is to see all seven depends on how much water there is in the waterfalls from snowmelt and rain. There is usually most water in the waterfalls from May to July. They got the name “The Seven Sisters” because the waterfall from a distance resembles the hair of seven women. The waterfalls come out of the Knivsflå river, furthest inside the Geirangerfjord.
“Friaren” is a bottle-shaped waterfall on the other side of the fjord. It has been named after the legend that “The Suitor” has left behind a series of failed suitor attempts for “The Seven Sisters”. Unfortunately, he must have hit the bottle.
The best way to see “The Seven Sisters” is from the sea:
The old farm Knivsflå is located on a mountain ledge close to “The Seven Sisters”. Garden went on to be the best of its time here in the Geirangerfjord. Where it was on the sunny slope, it was an early spring and good grazing conditions. The garden was self-sufficient and had plenty of food even in bad times. However, accidents and death have affected the people who lived on the farm. The terrain is dangerous, and it was the risk of landslides that caused Knivsflå to be moved from everything in 1898.
You can go to Knivsflå by boat taxi, and the trip up there is steep and airy, but a great experience.
