Havila Hotel Geiranger is making a strong commitment to quality and renewal, where modern Nordic style meets local quality suppliers in the first phase of a full makeover. The hotel is undergoing a total renovation of 25 rooms, along with upgrades to 20 other rooms.

Located right at the water’s edge in Geiranger village, Havila Hotel Geiranger offers guests close proximity to the world heritage fjord. Now, 25 fjord-view rooms have been completely stripped down and rebuilt from scratch.

The bathrooms have been upgraded with newly poured floors, tiled walls and floors, and entirely new plumbing and ventilation systems. The rooms themselves have been “rebuilt” and renewed with high-quality materials from several local suppliers.

Bringing the World Heritage Fjord Into the Room

Gunther Dahler, General Manager of Havila Hotels, explains that the goal was to allow guests to feel the presence of the fjord inside their rooms.

“With floor-to-ceiling windows facing the World Heritage fjord, we wanted these qualities—materials and colors—to continue inside the rooms. You’ll find light wood, soft blue tones, and warm natural materials like wool,” he says.

Locally Sourced Quality

Havila Group aims to create local value and ripple effects through its business operations, and the local industries of Northwest Norway play a key role in the hotel’s renewal. Rovde Møbel & Design supplied the headboards, chairs came from Brunstad, beds from Wonderland, and curtains were delivered by A. Sævik. All renovation work has been carried out by local suppliers.

Havila owner Hege Sævik Rabben emphasizes that while this approach supports local value creation, it also ensures top-quality results that enhance the guest experience.

“We want to offer our guests the very best, and we’re fortunate to have that right here in our local area. Both we and our guests benefit from this locally sourced quality,”  she adds.

A Variety of Unique Travel Memories

This renovation marks the first step in adapting the hotel to meet the needs of modern travelers and changing market trends, with guests seeking new types of experiences. This summer, the hotel will also introduce a gallery and a shop to further distinguish itself and enhance its offerings.

“We’re developing a gallery and shop that will feature art exhibitions from several renowned artists, as well as a carefully curated selection of Norwegian quality products with great design. This will offer visitors to Geiranger a broader range of experiences,” says Dahler.

Havila Hotel Geiranger will reopen for the season on April 10, just one week before Easter, featuring the newly renovated rooms.
